Status check, January

I think I'll make these a recurring topic.

I'm almost out of baby spider plants- call or email to reserve yours soon!

Don't forget to take a look at The Spider's Mask on Etsy for some shiny new things to add to your Viking hoard!

Take a look at these goats. They are waddling with health. They have yet to need deworming and I've not had to trim very many hooves in this herd. They eat hay and grain, and mineral supplements, but mostly hay and no artificial or unnatural feedstuffs. They are due March-April. I put in a new floor (well, old platforms from something long forgotten that are newly become floor) in their feed shed. They came to check it out before I was done putting it all in place! If you or someone you know is interested in reserving a kid from this year's batch of Kiko and Bo-Ki kids, contact me ASAP. Owl Hill Farm only sells live animals but we do have a buy-back program for useable hides if you are purchasing to butcher or have butchered. We can put you in touch with a local custom slaughter operation that comes very highly recommended and will take care of getting the hide back to us for tanning at no additional inconvenience to you. But for now, fat happy pregnant goat pictures!

Announcing New Handcrafted Awesome

Take a gander through the Farm’s associated Etsy shop- The Spider’s Mask- for a parade of hand crafted wearable art including hand woven silver, real lapis lazuli touches, an actual charm necklace, and a wide variety of shapes and styles to fit a variety of tastes.

All of the new pieces for sale feature hand made trichinopoly chain, often referred to as Viking weave or Viking knit wire. Creating this strong, supple, lighter-than-it-looks chain by hand is very time consuming but I’ve tried to keep prices reasonable despite some pieces taking six hours or more to complete.

Trichinopoly chain has been found at archaeological sites across Scandinavia and norther Europe. It is not at all inaccurate to refer to this collection of new jewelry as ‘historically inspired.’ Take a look, share it with a friend, and maybe consider that your ‘inner Viking’ would be glad to add some of this to your own hoard😉

(This copper and silver piece has already SOLD. Contact me if you are interested in a similar piece.)

Vacation is over, back to work

I'm going back to the other job tomorrow. I don't really like the other job, but it provides a nice financial cushion against bad crop yields and medical emergencies. What this means is that the Farm will be reverting to Saturday-only hours ( and call-ahead is strongly preferred, since winter is our behind-the-scenes prep time) at least until the days get a lot longer.

We are gladly accepting old Christmas/Yule/Holiday trees. The goats think they are delicious and the wood is a good fuel for the outdoor fires. Drop off preferred, pick up available. Email for any questions.

Check out the "About the Farm" page for updated information about hours and current product availability. Check out the "Calendar" page for upcoming Farm and Kindred events.

Attempting A New Format

I have not yet decided how I really feel about this format for keeping the blog going. Unfortunately, I'm stuck away from Wordpress for most of the day. Apparently it's social networking, even though the same entity does all of its work through Google and the entire Google suite is available. Ironic, no? I guess that's the same reason that Facebook is blocked but Pinterest isn't? Random and very weird. Hopefully all of the same folks will be able to track me here as well. We'll see.

IF I decide I like this format, there will be a period of cross posting and migrating posts before the other blog goes away. I really like my reading list though. so... we'll see.
